A mystery snake has been accused by an official of a Nigerian exam body of swallowing more than N36 million naira (nearly $100,000) in cash.
The official made the strange allegation after she was confronted during an audit about incomplete remission of funds from her office to a government account.
According to the Nigerian Sun, Philomina Chieshe (F), a sales clerk with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board in Benue state, Nigeria told the JAMB registrar and his team that she could not account for the said cash because an unidentified snake routinely sneaked into the office vault to steal cash.
The federal agency’s registrar Prof Ishaq Oloyede, told reporters that syndicates had been feeding fat on the agency’s purse for years.
He confirmed that the ‘mystery snake scandal’ is just one of the 100 fraud cases being tackled by his office.
