The analysis shows that out of the 42,429 candidates that sat for the examination, 32,917 candidates, representing 77.58 per cent, have five credits and above in various subjects.
While briefing newsmen on Tuesday at the council’s headquarters in Minna, the Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of NECO, Prof. Charles Uwakwe, said the release of the results came barely 38 days after the examinations were conducted.
Uwakwe said, “For candidates’ general performance by states, Ogun State has the best result as 4,766 students out of the 5,213 that sat for the exam obtained five credits and above in all subjects, representing 91.42 per cent. Zamfara State records the worst result; only 24 out of the 186 candidates obtained five credits and above, representing 12.90 per cent.”
He added, “A total of 42,985 candidates registered, out of which 42,429 sat for the examinations, and the number of candidates with five credits, including Mathematics and English Language, put at 24,098 (56.79 per cent).”
It was also gathered that out of a total number of 41,429 candidates that sat for English Language, 29,258 had credit pass, representing 70.62 per cent; while out of the 41,485 that sat for Mathematics, a total 32,701 candidates got credit pass, representing 78.82 per cent.
Putting the number of candidates with malpractice cases at 4,425, representing 10.43 per cent, Uwakwe said, “It represents 5.9 per cent reduction in cases compared to 2016.”
While the FCT, Kogi, Ondo and Taraba states have no cases of malpractices, having recorded zero cases, representing 0.00 per cent, Plateau State records the highest case with 943 candidates, representing 21.31 per cent. Mathematics has the highest case with 728 candidates involved.
The registrar advised candidates to access their results on NECO website www.mynecoexam.com, using their examination registration number and scratch cards.
