GIRLS IN BAUCHI SET TO LEARN CODING AND ROBOTICS AT THE YOUTHCANTECH DIGITAL LITERACY PROGRAM, POWERED BY TECHWOMEN, UPLIFT HUB, WOMEN TECHMAKERS AND BRAINIACS STEM & ROBOTICS

The technology landscape in Bauchi is about to receive a boost as about fifty girls aged 10-18 years will soon acquire digital skills at the YouthCanTech training program, which will hold from 10th to 21st of April, 2017 at Uplift Hub in Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi. This program is the brainchild of a collaborative effort between technology and youth development enthusiasts  – TechWomen (Bauchi Alumni), Uplift Hub, Women Techmakers (all in Bauchi) and Brainiacs STEM & Robotics (Abuja, Lagos, Kaduna and Jos), who are positively impacting the technology space in the northern part of Nigeria and the entire country. Experts agree that STEM education with emphasis on digital literacy, programming, coding and robotics will form the bed rock for sparking creativity and innovation in Nigerian youths. The event in Bauchi will form the launch pad in North East Nigeria technology drive to be organized by the consortium.
YouthCanTech digital literacy program promises to be very exciting, as it will feature fun, hands-on training on basic computer appreciation and introduction to the following: web development using HTML, Introduction to basic Coding skills using the highly versatile MIT Scratch and Introduction to basic robotics using Lego Wedo 2.0 and Mindstorm EV-3. Our team of well trained and highly motivated instructors and tutors across our portfolio will be on ground to guide the girls through the program, in the serene environment of Uplift hub in secured premises of Federal Polytechnic Bauchi.

YouthCanTech is open to girls between 10 and 18 years of age . The event is opened to all irrespective of your previous computer operation skills. In simple words, you can attend even if you have operated a Spaces are limited, so parents and guardians are encouraged to register their daughters/wards early, as this will be a way of keeping them gainfully occupied during the holidays, while adding value to their lives.

Since digital literacy is a necessary life skill in our world today where technology is rapidly evolving, this program is aimed at bringing girls into the mainstream of the digital revolution. This will empower them with access to information, skills and opportunities to harness their creative potential. In the long run, this will give them a competitive edge in the job market, serve as a springboard for technology entrepreneurship and contribute to improving their quality of life. This program will also contribute to improving the statistics that only 35.7% of girls in Bauchi State are computer literate as compared with 64.3% of boys in the state (National Bureau of Statistics, 2012).
